Indian Overseas Congress National Secretary Virendra Vashist on Wednesday resigned from his position, after completing five years in the role.

He said the decision was in accordance with the Udaipur Declaration.

In a letter to Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge, he thanked the party for the opportunities and affirmed he remains fully committed to the ideals and goals of the Congress party.

"I am writing to formally resign from my position as Secretary of the IOC Department, AICC, in accordance with the Udaipur Declaration as I have completed five years in this role. It has been an honor to serve in this capacity. and I am grateful for the opportunities and experiences I have gained during my tenure," Vashist said in his letter.

"However, I remain fully committed to the ideals and goals of the Congress party. I will continue to work diligently as a Congress worker and am prepared to take on any responsibilities or tasks assigned to me in the future," he said.

The Congress Working Committee (CWC) adopted the Udaipur Declaration at the end of a three-day Chintan Shivir.

Under the declaration, the party decided to provide 50 per cent representation to those below 50 years of age at all levels of organisation, as per the declaration.

The declaration also stated that no person should hold one party position for more than five years and give opportunity to new people.

Another major decision of the declaration was enforcing '1 person, 1 post', '1 family, 1 ticket' rules in the party. (ANI)
