Karnataka Congress filed a complaint against Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Basangouda R Patil (Yatnal) to the Karnataka Director General of Police on Tuesday over his statement against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. The Congress workers further demanded strict legal action against the Patil.

This came after the BJP MLA from Vijayapura constituency slammed the Lok Sabha LoP over his remarks on caste during his recent visit to the United States.

Patil questioned whether Rahul Gandhi knew in which caste he was born and if he did not know if he was born to "Muslims or Christians."

"Rahul Gandhi travels to America today and makes anti-national remarks. Not only does he not know what caste he was born into, but he wants to undertake a caste survey. He is unsure if he was born to Muslims or Christians," Patil was quoted as saying.

Earlier Karnataka BJP Chief BY Vijayendra said that Rahul Gandhi and the Congress' pretense as Mohabbat ki Dukaan have been unmasked.

Rahul Gandhi and the Congress party's pretense as the messiahs of "Mohabbat ka Dukaan" has been unmasked. Their attempt to stifle press freedom and silence legitimate questions about Hindu persecution in Bangladesh exposes their hypocrisy. While they accuse others of curbing press freedom, their own actions reflect a disturbing disregard for the same values. Imagine the authoritarianism they would unleash if they ever came to power--echoes of the Emergency era are unmistakable. When the Congress high command preaches such values, it's no surprise that their governance in Karnataka mirrors this dangerous approach. Their blatant protection of wrongdoers, from the Nagamangala incident to the Rameshwaram cafe bomb blast, underscores their dangerous duplicity," Vijayendra said.

Earlier this month, Rahul Gandhi was on a three-day visit to the US. During this, he met several US leaders and held multiple interactions with the Indian diaspora. However, his remarks, especially those on the reservation and Sikh community, have triggered a row, with the BJP accusing him and the Congress party of inciting people through a 'divisive' agenda.
