Gujarat CM meets Taiwan's Economic and Cultural Center Director, discusses enhancing trade in semiconductors

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Friday greeted Homer CY Chang, Director General of the Mumbai-based Economic and Cultural Centre of Taiwan in Gandhinagar. Chang expressed a keen interest in strengthening trade relations with Gujarat, particularly in the semiconductor and electronics sectors.

Chang, who is also participating in the Gujarat Semiconnect Conference-2024, held a one-to-one meeting with Patel at Mahatma Mandir after the inaugural session of this conference.

Chang also expressed his willingness to increase trade relations with Gujarat, especially in the semiconductor and electronics sectors and requested the support of the Government of India and the State Government to attract Taiwanese investors to Gujarat.

He also expressed his desire to open a State Office of Taiwan in Gujarat to further strengthen cultural exchanges.

Asserting the state government's willingness to increase cooperation with Taiwan, the Gujarat Chief Minister said that the state government wants to take advantage of Taiwan's guidance and expertise in building Semicon City with advanced facilities like Taiwan's Shinsu Science Park in Dholera.

The Chief Minister also requested the Taiwan delegation to take advantage of the potential in Dholera and Sanand for the development of high-end electronics industries besides semiconductors.

Senior Secretaries including Chief Secretary Rajkumar, Additional Chief Secretary to Chief Minister Pankaj Joshi, Additional Chief Secretary Industries Department S.J. Haider, and Principal Secretary Science Technology Mona Khandhar were present in this courtesy call meeting.

The Gujarat Chief Minister also took to his official X handle and posted about his meeting with Homer CY Chang. He said, "Homer CY Chang, Director General of Taiwan's Mumbai-based Economic and Cultural Center arrived in Gandhinagar to participate in the Gujarat Semiconnect Conference."

He added further, "Discussed with him on enhancing commercial relations between Gujarat and Taiwan in semiconductor and electronics sector. Outlined the potential in Dholera and Sanand for the development of these sectors. Consulted on the benefits of Taiwan's expertise in the construction of Semicon City, which is taking shape in Dholera." (ANI)
