Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched BJP's membership drive in the state on Tuesday with his fresh enrolment at the party's state headquarters in Guwahati.

"With immense pleasure and pride, I enrolled as a member of @BJP4India at A.B Vajpayee Bhawan in Guwahati. Proud to be a Member of world's largest political party," said Sarma in a post on X.

While addressing BJP workers at the membership drive event Sarma slammed Congress for alleged nepotism in the party.

"For every BJP worker, taking membership of the party is a sacred Maha Yagya. There is no 'parivarvaad' in BJP, but we have seen the picture of 'parivarvaad' in Congress. A strong foundation has been laid so that this party can never go to any particular family....," said Sarma while addressing the workers.

Meanwhile, BJP Assam President Bhabesh Kalita who was also part of part's event said, "Just like the Prime Minister took the party membership yesterday, today the Chief Minister will also come to the party office in a short while and take the party membership. This campaign of ours is a festival, workers from all over the country and the state are participating in it... Our target in Assam is to make 60 lakh members by 2025 ..."

A day ahead of this, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday launched the Bharatiya Janata Party's 2024 membership drive 'Sanghatan Parva, Sadasyata Abhiyan 2024' by renewing his membership and urged party workers to make special efforts to connect with the youth.

"The people who are 18-20 years old today have not read the newspapers whose headline used to be that today there has been a scam of so many lakhs, today there has been a scam of so many crores... the children who are 18-20 years old today have not read this. They do not know what the situation was 10-11 years ago, they have seen a new Hindustan and for this their dreams also start from there, and then our responsibility increases. Isn't it our responsibility to target the entire generation of 18-25 years old and connect them with BJP through a plan so that they too come to know how many bad days their parents had seen," PM Modi said.
