American rapper Macklemore has been dropped from the remaining US dates of Ed Sheerans Loop Tour after his recent appearance during the tour drew attention for a speech addressing the Israel-Palestine conflict.
Macklemore performed during Sheerans September 4 concert at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, where he used the stage to express support for Palestinians and called on the audience to say, Free Palestine. The remarks sparked reactions online and within the music community. Messina Touring Group, promoter of the US leg of Sheerans Loop Tour, said that venues had raised concerns about Macklemore remaining on the lineup for upcoming shows. As the concert promoter for Ed Sheerans U.S. Loop Tour, we have been notified by venues on the upcoming U.S. tour dates that they will not allow a concert to take place with Macklemore on the lineup, which would result in the cancellation of the tour and impact hundreds of thousands of fans. After discussions with stakeholders, Macklemore will not be performing on the remaining support dates, the promoter said in a statement, as quoted by Variety. Macklemore was scheduled to perform at eight of the 10 remaining shows on Sheerans stadium tour, which is set to resume on September 19 in Philadelphia. The rapper was scheduled to perform at venues including Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts; Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia; Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, and other locations. During his September 4 appearance, Macklemore told the audience that his decision to join the tour was partly motivated by an opportunity to speak about the conflict and express his support for Palestinians.
