Actor Anne Hathaway has made it clear that her future remains firmly rooted in acting, despite stepping into the shoes of a global music icon in her latest film 'Mother Mary.'

At a special screening of the psychological thriller at Metrograph in New York City on April 13, the Oscar-winning actor said she has no intention of trading acting accolades for chart success.

"I can't see that happening," Hathaway told People magazine when asked about a possible pop star career.

Hathaway plays a global music sensation attempting a comeback tour in 'Mother Mary', where she stars opposite Michaela Coel.

The film explores the tensions that resurface when her character reconnects with her former costume designer, Sam Anselm.

To prepare for the role, Hathaway immersed herself in the world of pop music, seeking guidance from artist Charli xcx, who contributed to the film's soundtrack, and choreographer Dani Vitale.

Both, she said, "were able to give me a lot of insight."

"I wanted to talk to her about the music. She wrote such amazing music that I was going to perform," Hathaway said of Charli xcx, adding, "But I also just had a lot of questions for her about what her life was like, what the experience of being a pop star was."

Reflecting on what she learned, Hathaway described pop stars as uniquely resilient performers. "And the thing that I just realized about pop stars is they're endurance athletes who can do it all in platform heels," she said, adding, "They are the most charming people on the planet, and they have this crazy self-belief."

The experience also reaffirmed her identity as an actor. "Like, they're so driven to share what's inside of them, and it kind of made me realize that I'm really an actress because I like to share what's inside of me through a filter," she explained, adding, "I don't like to just go out there and be like, 'Hey, I'm here.' I like to do it through a filter or a veil."

Beyond 'Mother Mary', Hathaway is set to reprise her role as Andy Sachs in 'The Devil Wears Prada 2', the sequel to the 2006 hit.

The film sees her character cross paths once again with Miranda Priestly, played by Meryl Streep, alongside returning co-stars Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci.

"I loved making the first," Hathaway said of the original film, adding, "I know I was stressed and anxious and all those things, but it's one of the most hilarious experiences ever because of the people I was with."

Praising her co-stars, she added, "Emily Blunt is such a dream of a human being. Stanley is so funny and quick, and Meryl... She's someone I admire. Someone who defines how it's done. Somebody who is just living greatness and never rests on that laurel, but is always pushing herself to expand as an artist. She's unbelievable."

'Mother Mary' is currently in theatres, while 'The Devil Wears Prada 2' is scheduled to release on May 1. (ANI)
