Cautioning people against voting for the Congress, BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawala on Friday said the grand old party will 'snatch 55 per cent' of their wealth and assets if they make the 'mistake' of putting their electoral trust in them.

Speaking to media persons after casting his vote in Gautam Buddh Nagar in Uttar Pradesh, Poonawala said, "On one side, there is the mission and vision of PM Modi. This government lifted 25 crore people out of poverty over the last 10 years and is committed to bringing more out of penury if elected again. We have also underlined our commitment to building 3.5 crore more houses for the poor, new highways and expressways at double the rate while taking the total number of airports in the country to 70. On the other side, there is the Congress that neither has a mission nor vision. All it has to show to the people is corruption...one family's ambition, commission and the politics of division. They stand against Sanatana, have made a mockery of Shakti (women's power) and even questioned the existence of Lord Ram. However, the people will choose wisely again as they did in 2014 and 2019."

Wading into the massive political uproar over the Congress' alleged promise of a wealth survey and redistribution, the BJP national spokesperson said, "If you make the mistake of voting the Congress back, they will snatch 55 per cent of your wealth and assets. There is a lot of public anger over all this talk of wealth X-ray. Under the garb of appeasement, they want to snatch the rights of the OBC, SC and ST communities and give them to their favoured vote bank. The people will give them a befitting reply."

He added that the BJP's campaign pitch of "Abki baar 400 paar" (let's aim for 400-plus seats) wasn't just limited to the party anymore but reflects the popular sentiment.

Polling for Phase 2 of the general elections got underway at 7 am on Friday, with Tripura topping the voter turnout at 57.47 pc till 1 pm, according to data shared by the Election Commission (EC).

Among the other states polling in Phase 2, Assam registered 46.31 per cent till 1 pm, Bihar 33.80 per cent, Chhattisgarh at 53.09 per cent, Jammu and Kashmir at 38.23 per cent, Kerala at 39.26 per cent and Rajasthan at 40.39 per cent. (ANI)
