She said, during her regime, it was the very same police force that had maintained an enviable degree of law and order to the extent that Tamil Nadu was considered a model state -- a virtual sanctuary of peace. ''It was this police force that had finished off the dreaded Forest brigand Veerappan, who had held the State to ransom for more than two decades and brought an end to 'rowdy raj' in Chennai,'' she said. ''Yet, this proud force has now been made to bite the dust.
