BJP sources said the rebel leader and Tourism Minister G Janardhana Reddy was still in Karnataka, while the Chief Minister who went on a pilgrimage to Vaishnodevi in Jammu and Kashmir is expected to come back late in the evening. While the rebels have so far remained unrelenting from their demand of change of leadership, both at Hyderabad and Bangalore, Mr Yeddyurappa said he had to make unwilling sacrifices by dropping Rural Development Minister Shobha Karandlaje and transfer V P Baligar from his office as a price for peace with the Reddy brothers. The Chief Minister broke down in front of the cameras saying he had accepted these demands at the instructions of the party elders and in the interest of people. Mr Yeddyurappa, who has been asked by the party high command to stay back in Delhi for one more day yesterday, said he was willing to take everyone along by adopting an inclusive approach.

BJP Rajya Sabha MP Prabhath Jha in his letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said, ''the increasing vulgarity in the television was a cause of concern for the people and these programmes could no longer be watched by the families. Many of these programmes were highly objectionable and completely contravened in cultural ethos and traditions.'' ''For the print medium, Press Council of India, a quasi judicial body, was set up as a watchdog of the press for adjudicating the complaints against the press relating to violation of ethics and violation of freedom of press,'' he said, adding that no such regulatory body was in place for the audio-visual medium. It was important that such mechanism should be available to the TV channels. The BJP MP said Doordarshan was becoming distant from the people and Prasar Bharati, the national broadcaster, should be given autonomy and manpower to discharge the responsibilities entrusted.

''The measures, undertaken by the Delhi International Airport Pvt Limited (DIAL), are being implemented on the city side, inside the passenger terminals as well as on the airside,'' a DIAL spokesperson told UNI today. He informed that IGIA was the only airport in India to feature CAT IIIB Instrument Landing System which allowed compatible aircraft and trained pilots to land even when the Runway Visual Range (RVR) was up to 50 m. The airport has two parallel runways with such system. ''Fifty-five parking bays, including 36 at the domestic apron, have been provided with CAT III compatible lighting systems. Additions carried out over the recent past have provided additional number of taxi routings to ease aircraft movement and prioritise the movement of CAT III-enabled aircraft,'' the spokesperson said.

He informed that the victim's husband, Rajiv Verma, has been living in Dubai for past five years while she used to live on the first floor of her house. ''Her parents and brother also live in the same building at the ground floor,'' the official said. Police suspected it to be a case of personal enmity as nothing has been found missing from the house except the victim's mobile, he added.

Speaking at the meeting of South Asian Regional Meet of International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives here, Delhi Mayor Kanwar Sain said there was an ambitious plan of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi(MCD) to treat and convert 2000 tonnes of solid waste into 16 MW power in one project and 1200 tonnes of solid waste will be converted into 12 MW power in another project.

WalMart Stores Inc Chairman S Robson Walton today met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, but what transpired at the meeting was not immediately known. The head of the world's largest retailer was described as being on a ''private visit.'' WalMart has a joint venture with the Bharti Group in India. The foreign firms are barred from opening retail stores or buying stakes in supermarket chains in India. There was widespread speculation that the WalMart Chief discussed opening up of FDI in retail with the Prime Minister. Walmart's international business has expanded at an average of 13 per cent annually in the past five years, more than twice as fast as the 5.9 per cent growth in the United States, the place to which the company belongs. WalMart often evokes passion, with a section of the people loving it as a provider of cheap goods for the common man and another accussing it of trampling labour laws and other practices which go with the negative image of an MNC. Mr Walton also met Commerce and Industry Minister Anand Sharma, where issues of mutual interest cropped up.
