Rajnandgaon (Chhattisgarh) | April 21, 2024 11:28:25 PM IST
Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi on Sunday said that the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Central government wants to change the Constitution and curtail the rights of people.

Addressing a public rally in Rajnandgaon, the Congress General Secretary said that any change in the Constitution would impact everyone and people would not be able to lead a respectable life since their rights would be lost, including that of asking questions.

"Their (BJP) leaders are saying to everyone that they should get 400 seats and they will change the Constitution. On the other hand, Narendra Modi says - We will not change the Constitution. This is a conspiracy. The Constitution gives the right to equality to women, and the right to 'jal, Jungle' for Adivasis. This is the same Constitution for which the great men of the country sacrificed themselves. They want to change the Constitution because the PM only wants power. They want to weaken the rights of the people. They want to weaken the reservations," Priyanka Gandhi said.

BJP leaders keep claiming Prime Minister Modi has become a powerful leader in the world, but if that was the case then why did he not reduce unemployment or control inflation, Gandhi said.

"Modiji's government has been in power in the country for 10 years, but how much has your life changed, have you progressed? Inflation has increased beyond the limit in the past 10 years. Unemployment is at its highest in 45 years. No matter how much a youngster studies, there is no guarantee of a job. The imposition of GST on farm implements has made cultivation difficult. Media shows- Narendra Modi can stop the wars happening in the world. If Narendra Modi can do all this, then Why didn't you reduce unemployment? - Why didn't you reduce inflation? " she claimed.

Attacking the Union government on electoral bonds, she said several entities that were raided by probe agencies gave donations in the form of electoral bonds, after which such action was stopped.

"Narendra Modi introduced the 'Electoral Bond', in which the names of the donors were kept secret. Then when the Supreme Court sought details of the donors, PM Modi's corruption and his truth came to light before the country. It was revealed that in the Modi government, the case of any company that was raided was closed by taking donations from the same company," she said.

Remembering her grandmother Indira Gandhi, the Congress leader said that there was a time when there were no helicopters and air service but Indira ji used to reach every village by car, on foot or on an elephant, though that time is long gone.

"I went to a small village. There an old woman fed me kheer and said- 'I had fed kheer to your grandmother too.' Even with the limited resources available at that time, Indira Gandhi would visit villages and meet people. Because in our country the public is supreme for the leader. This is our tradition. But today Narendra Modi has become arrogant. He has started considering himself above the public," she asserted.

She said the BJP keeps talking about dynastic politics and corruption but leaders who join them become clean.

"They have levelled allegations on former chief minister Bhupesh Baghel. If he says he is joining the BJP, then they will say Baghelji is very honest," Priyanka Gandhi said.

Former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel is the Congress' candidate from Rajnandgaon Lok Sabha seat.

The remaining seats in the state will go to polls on April 26 and May 7.

The BJP won 9 of the 11 seats in the state in the 2019 Lok Sabha, while the Congress had to settle for just 2, including Bastar. (ANI)
