With barely six months left for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Tamil Nadu BJP chief K Annamalai on Thursday said that they will be "focusing on strengthening the party" and presenting the progress card of the Modi government's nine years of rule.

The BJP leader said that people who believe that Narendra Modi should serve as Prime Minister for a third consecutive term should join hands with the party.

"It is for our Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has completed ten years in power and is seeking a third straight term. So, Tamil Nadu BJP is duty-bound to present the people with the progress card of what we have accomplished over the last ten years. That is our duty. We believe this election is about bringing back Modi Ji for a consecutive third term," Annamalai said while speaking to reporters in Chennai.

The BJP leader said that allies have been joining and exiting the National Democratic Alliance since its formation in May 1998 as a coalition to contest the general elections. "That is the ebb and flow of politics," he said.

AIADMK had exited the NDA alliance after it accused the state BJP leaders of belittling its icons such as former Chief Ministers C N Annadurai and J Jayalalithaa, while JD(S) in Karnataka joined hands with BJP.

"Here in Tamil Nadu, we are here to strengthen the party. It is seven months until the elections. Anyone who believes that Narendra Modi should be the PM for the third consecutive term can join us. We can ensure that all the votes go to PM Modi. Parties can make individual decisions," he said.

"But as far as the BJP is concerned, our focus for the next seven months is to strengthen the party, keep presenting the progress we have achieved in the last ten years to the people of Tamil Nadu, and continue meeting with people and beneficiaries."

He expressed confidence that Tamil Nadu will deliver a decisive mandate to PM Modi in next year's general elections.

"We are very confident that, regardless of the shape and form the NDA takes, Tamil Nadu will provide a decisive mandate to PM Modi," he said.

"People will assess what BJP and the (ruling) DMK have achieved. This is not a state-specific election," he added. (ANI)
