Congress leader Pawan Khera on Saturday said the "Chhatro Ki Goonj" programme of Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi had reached Delhi and claimed that "panic" was visible in the national capital even before the message had fully arrived.
Gandhi held the 'Chhatron ki Goonj' campaign in Pune on Saturday, where the special focus of the edition was young women and female students. Speaking to ANI, Khera said such dialogues are something that governments should also undertake, as they have a duty and responsibility towards young people. "This 'Goonj' has reached Delhi, and the panic in Delhi is visible even before the 'Goonj' fully arrived. The kind of dialogue Rahul Gandhi has engaged in with the youth is something governments ought to undertake," Khera said. He added that the kind of dialogue Rahul Gandhi has engaged in with the youth is something that governments should conduct. "While the opposition certainly should do it, the government has a specific duty and obligation in this regard. Yet, this government has left the youth to fend for themselves," the Congress leader added. Congress leader Supriya Shrinate, speaking about the campaign, said women constitute half of the country's population and asserted that "the future is female". She said Gandhi had provided a platform for women to raise their voices. "Women make up half the country's population, and they can say this fearlessly and with absolute conviction that 'tomorrow, the future is female,' and Rahul Gandhi has provided them with this platform," Shrinate said. Congress leader Nana Patole said the faith placed in Rahul Gandhi was visible at the programme and claimed that forces that had opposed the movement earlier were also opposing Gandhi's outreach. He said that "The faith placed in Rahul Gandhi is evident here. The forces that opposed this movement back then are in power today, and they are opposing Rahul Gandhi's visit as well. Yet, I believe that the people here will not be intimidated by this oppressive system, and this event will send a powerful message to the nation." Congress leader and former MLA Alka Lamba claimed that Rahul Gandhi had dedicated the programme to female students and alleged that attempts were made to intimidate them. She also raised questions over the BJP and RSS' stand on 'Vande Mataram'. Lamba said, "Rahul Gandhi decided to dedicate the 'Chhatron Ki Goonj' program to the daughters and female students here... Attempts were made to intimidate these female students; ABVP goons showed up. They attacked and threatened them, but there is a massive surge of daughters here... The question arises for Amit Shah: who gave the order to fire AK-47 rounds from pellet guns?... Regarding the issue of 'Vande Mataram,' one should ask the BJP members about it. The RSS has a hundred-year history; when did they sing 'Vande Mataram'? Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar rejected allegations that people were brought to the event by paying them, saying students and young people had gathered to listen to Rahul Gandhi and share their views with him. "The youth of this country, the children, and the students have come here to listen to Rahul Gandhi and to share their own views with him. Some fools claim that people were brought here by paying them; let them come and see for themselves--whether people came because they were paid or of their own accord. They will find the answer right here."Wadettiwar said. Meanwhile, Union Minister Murlidhar Mohol criticised the programme, saying Rahul Gandhi's nationwide tours had not created any impact. He claimed that people of Pune have consistently voted based on performance and expressed faith in the work done under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership. Mohol also alleged that people were being brought to the event through payments and influencers, saying the programme should not be taken seriously. He said, "This won't achieve anything because he is already touring the entire country anyway, yet it is having no real impact. I believe the people of Pune have consistently voted based on performance and placed their trust in the work done--specifically under PM Modi's leadership... How people are being brought there, the money being distributed, and the payments made to influencers. I don't think this needs to be taken too seriously..." The campaign, launched by Gandhi in 2026, seeks to provide a platform for student concerns, including examination irregularities, paper leaks, rising education costs, recruitment-related issues and unemployment.
