Indore Police have arrested three more accused in connection with an online betting case registered at Rajendra Nagar police station, with questioning of the accused allegedly revealing a connection to Dubai, a senior police officer said on Saturday.
The three arrested accused have been identified as Rahul, Dharmendra and Swapnadeep, police said. They were taken on police remand for questioning as part of the investigation into the online betting network. According to DCP Zone 1 Narendra Singh Rawat, investigators found a Dubai connection during questioning of the arrested accused and while examining the digital trail associated with the betting operation. Police are also probing the alleged connection of Nana Patwari, brother of Madhya Pradesh Congress president Jitu Patwari, with the betting application. Rawat said that an online betting application had initially been downloaded using a mobile number linked to accused Swapnadeep. According to the police, the same application was subsequently downloaded and opened from the mobile phone of Nana Patwari using the same ID. The police officer said that the financial transactions associated with Nana Patwari are currently being examined. "An investigation into Nana Patwari's bank transactions is underway. After examining the transactions, he may also be made an accused in the case," Rawat said. Police have so far arrested 12 accused in the online betting case, while the names of two additional persons have emerged during the investigation. Their alleged involvement is being verified, the DCP said. The investigation is focused on establishing the extent of the betting network, the flow of money and the role played by different individuals in operating or accessing the online betting platform. The alleged Dubai link is also being examined as part of the investigation, with police seeking to establish whether the online betting operation had connections with persons or entities operating from outside India. The case was registered at Rajendra Nagar police station following the detection of the alleged online betting activities. Investigators have been examining mobile phones, application records and financial transactions to trace the network. Police said further action will be taken based on the evidence gathered during the investigation. (ANI)
