Family of three dies after youth jumps off cliff in Maharashtra's Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar after quarrel over mobile phone

Senior Police Official Rameshwar Gade said the cliff was around 400-500 feet high and despite efforts by police and fire brigade personnel, the youth could not be rescued. He said the youth's father, who was a driver, also fell while trying to save his son, after which the mother jumped from the cliff.

Speaking to ANI, Rameshwar Gade said, "The cliff was 400-500 feet high. Their whole family has been ruined over a phone. He quarreled with his father over a mobile phone and died by suicide while pulling his father along with him. The police and the fire brigade tried to save him. His father was a driver."

An eyewitness, Sanjay Jadhav, said the youth remained seated on the edge of the cliff for nearly three hours and did not respond to repeated requests from locals and police officials to move away from the spot.

"An 18-year-old youth had come and sat on the edge of the cliff here; from 10.00 AM to 1.00 PM, he refused to budge from the spot. I was present there along with the police. However, the young man was in no state to listen to anyone. He kept shifting his position while continuing to speak with his mother. His mother pleaded with him and begged him not to do this, but he was in no mood to listen. He was battling depression," Sanjay Jadhav told ANI.

He further said that, "For nearly three hours, I tried to reason with him and persuade him to come down. Eventually, his father also arrived. We thought his father would be able to convince him and bring him down safely. But within minutes, his father tried to grab him, and in the process, both the youth and his father fell down. Following this, his mother also jumped."

The incident took place at Khavda Hill in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district on Friday morning. Police are investigating the matter, and further details are awaited. (ANI)
