External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar is set to embark on a two-day official visit to Russia on August 23-24 and will meet his counterpart Sergey Lavrov along with co-chairing the 27th Session of the India-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technological and Cultural Cooperation (IRIGC-TEC).

The details were shared by the Ministry of External Affairs in a press release on Saturday.

As per the release, the EAM will pay a visit to Russia at the invitation of First Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Denis Manturov.

The release said, "The External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar, will undertake an official visit to Russia on 23-24 August 2026 to co-chair the 27th Session of the India-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technological and Cultural Cooperation (IRIGC-TEC)."

It further added that talks between him and Lavrov will focus on regional and global issues.

"During the visit, EAM will also meet Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation H.E. Mr. Sergey Lavrov and exchange perspectives on regional and global issues," the release said.

India and Russia have a longstanding and time-tested partnership.

A prior release by the Ministry of External Affairs noted that since the signing of the "Declaration on the India-Russia Strategic Partnership" in October 2000, India-Russia ties have acquired a qualitatively new character with enhanced levels of cooperation in almost all areas, including political, security, defence, trade and economy, science & technology, culture, and people-to-people ties.

Under the Strategic Partnership, several institutionalised dialogue mechanisms operate at both political and official levels to ensure regular interaction and follow-up on cooperation activities.

The India-Russia Intergovernmental Commission (IRIGC) has two divisions - the Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technological and Cultural Cooperation (IRIGC-TEC) co-chaired by the External Affairs Minister (EAM) Dr. S Jaishankar from India and First Deputy Prime Minister (First DPM) Denis Manturov from Russia; and the Military & Military-Technical Cooperation (IRIGC-M&MTC) headed by the Defence Ministers of the two countries, the release said.

The bilateral relationship has remained strong and stable over the years.

MEA underlined how the India-Russia partnership has been among the steadiest in the contemporary era, with a shared commitment to a multipolar world as well as to expand engagement beyond the traditional military, nuclear and space cooperation. (ANI)
