Rudraprayag administration warns of strict action against misconduct with Kedarnath pilgrims

Appealing to all horse and mule operators, owners and porters (hawkers), Mishra urged them to treat pilgrims with courtesy, dignity and respect and ensure that devotees have a safe and pleasant experience during the pilgrimage.

The District Magistrate said that while the yatra has largely been progressing smoothly, the administration had received complaints in a few instances regarding inappropriate behaviour by horse and mule operators and hawkers towards pilgrims.

"During the initial stage of the yatra, some reports of misconduct by horse-mule operators and hawkers towards pilgrims came to light. Consequently, both owners and hawkers have been directed to undergo police verification and register with the Zila Panchayat. Non-compliance will lead to legal action," Mishra said.

He said action has already been taken against those found responsible and warned that any similar complaints in the future would invite stringent action.

Mishra said pilgrims travelling to Kedarnath Dham rely on horses, mules and palanquins along the trekking route, making it essential for service providers to maintain proper conduct throughout the pilgrimage.

The District Magistrate further directed all horse and mule operators to ensure that every porter working under them is mandatorily registered with the District Panchayat. He said those found operating on the Kedarnath pilgrimage route without valid registration would face blacklisting, financial penalties and other legal action.

The District Magistrate also said that if any registered operator or hawker is found misbehaving with pilgrims, action will be taken against both the owner and the concerned hawker. Urging all stakeholders to uphold the sanctity of the Kedarnath Yatra, Mishra called upon operators, owners and porters to ensure that pilgrims receive safe, respectful and dignified services throughout their journey.
