Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National President Nitin Nabin on Monday said that the spread of computers and the internet has made people far more aware of their rights, adding that political parties can no longer expect the public to forget their statements or actions.
Addressing the Viksit Bharat Student Conclave at VBIT in Medchal-Malkajgiri, Nabin said there was a time between the 1980s and the early 2000s when people were not as conscious of their rights as they are today. "I always say there was a time--between the 1980s and the early 2000s--when the public and our generation were not particularly aware of their rights. However, with the advent of computers and the internet, every individual has become deeply conscious of their rights. The internet has certainly raised public awareness," Nabin said. He said the growing awareness among citizens has made public representatives more accountable for their statements and actions. "Consequently, we--as public representatives--no longer have the luxury of making statements that the public simply forgets; the people remember, and they deliver a fitting response at the right time. This applies to the BJP just as it does to all other political parties," he said. The BJP president also cautioned against short-term political calculations, saying that politics should not be driven by immediate gains alone. "Often, people in politics play games for short-term gain," Nabin said while interacting with students during the conclave. The Viksit Bharat Student Conclave was organised as part of the BJP's outreach to students and young citizens, with discussions centred on governance, public awareness and the role of youth in shaping India's future. Nabin emphasised that the youth of Telangana are endowed with immense talent and innovation. "Interacted with my young friends at the 'Viksit Bharat Student Conclave' today. The youth of Telangana are endowed with immense talent, innovation, and limitless potential, and are well-positioned to become a driving force in India's development," he said on X. Targeting the Congress government in the state, Nabin alleged that it has failed to fulfil key promises to young poeple. "Unfortunately, the Congress government in the state has failed to fulfill its key promises to young people, including commitments on employment and development," he said. (ANI)
