Assam minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass reflected on the Bharatiya Janata Party's preparations for the upcoming Panchayat elections in the state. Dass said that both the BJP and Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) will fight the elections together as NDA.

Dass said that NDA is sure of winning 60 per cent of the seats in the upcoming Panchayat elections and will try to win more than 70 per cent of the seats this time.

Ranjeet Kumar Dass also emphasised the developmental works done by the government in the state and said that the people will vote for BJP for the same reason. He stated that the government has built more than 20 million houses in villages and is building five lakh more houses.

"In the Panchayat elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Asom Gana Parishad have decided to contest together as NDA. In the last elections, the BJP got a huge majority and this time too, it will get majority of seats and we will win 60 per cent seats. We are trying to win more than 70 per cent seats. People will vote for BJP because of the development work done in the villages under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi and CM Himanta Biswa Sarma. We have built about 20 lakh houses in the villages and are building five lakh more houses," Dass told reporters on Sunday.

The Assam State Election Commission on Wednesday announced the schedule for the Panchayat elections in the state, which will be conducted in two phases across 27 districts.

State Election Commissioner Alok Kumar informed ANI that the first phase of polling will take place on May 2 in 14 districts, while the second phase is set for May 7 in the remaining 13 districts. The counting of votes for both phases will be conducted on May 11.

More than 1.80 crore voters, including 90.71 lakh male voters, 89.65 lakh female voters and 408 other voters, will exercise their franchise in 25,007 polling stations. (ANI)
