The construction work at Nyoma Mudh Advanced Landing Ground (ALG) in Ladakh is underway in spite of varying climatic conditions in the district.

The administrative approval for the construction of basic facilities in Mudh-Nyoma ALG was issued on March 20, 2023.

The contract was awarded to KCC Global Pvt. Ltd. on August 20, 2023, for an amount of 218 Cr on EPC Mode. The runway for ALG has already been completed within 14 months of the awarding contract.

The project is expected to be completed by August 2025. Around 800 labourers were employed during peak working season, a mix of both locals and skilled persons outside of Ladakh.

The runway is bi-directional, which means aircraft can land and take off from both directions.

Notably, aircraft like C-130, AN-32, MI-17, and ALH can land on this airfield.

Site engineer Shaheed Saifi said that he felt proud to be part of this project, which is established near the border of China.

"To work here is challenging as the climatic conditions here vary from those in the plain areas; I have been here for the last five to six months," he said.

Describing challenges, he said that the major challenge was resources, as we had to bring our resources from the plains.

"There are a total of 70 labourers working here with two supervisors. The landing ground is multipurpose. Fighter jets and cargo can land here," he stated.

Brigadier Vishal Srivastava said "As far as the runway is concerned, it is almost complete, we will have a joint inspection with the Air Force. This airfield is above 13,00 feet, it is a forward area near LAC. Our troops are deployed in forward areas, this will help our troops in deployment, logistics, induction and medical evacuation. This will also bring socio economic development in the region." (ANI)
