Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge on Thursday promised to provide Rs 3,000 to every woman of Maharashtra if the Maha Vikas Aghadi forms the government in the state.

"Nehru ji was imprisoned in Ahmednagar fort for 963 days and wrote the book 'Discovery of India' here...Nehru ji and Babasaheb Ambedkar ji gave the Constitution to the country, which gave people the right to vote...75 years ago, only the rich people used to vote during the rule of British...Today even women have the right to vote...Those who believed in Manusmriti, who used to say that women should not get rights, are today folding their hands in front of women. Under the 'Ladli Behen' scheme, they are giving Rs 1500 to every woman. I promise that after the formation of the Maha Vikas Aghadi government in Maharashtra, we will give Rs 3,000 to every woman," Kharge said addressing a rally in Igatpuri.

In another rally in Pune, the Congress National President said that the Congress party is the followers of Babasaheb Ambedkar, Lord Buddha.

"We are the followers of Babasaheb Ambedkar, Lord Buddha, Nehru Ji, Gandhi Ji. These people have built the nation whereas they (BJP) are people who ruined the country. Why are they saying 'Batenge to Katenge'? They want to divide the nation in the name of religion. Former PM Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi sacrificed their lives for the unity of the nation," Kharge added.

Earlier today, Kharge said that the Congress and MVA are going to win elections in the state.

"The environment in Maharashtra is good. Congress and MVA are going to win. We will give a better government to Maharashtra... When Rahul Gandhi comes, another nearby 2-4 constituencies also get benefited," Kharge said.

He further slammed the current Mahayuti government, saying that this government is not formed on the basis of ideology, rather it is formed after ploying the situation.

Campaigning has intensified for the 288 assembly seats in Maharashtra with both the ruling Mahayuti and the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) making efforts to woo the electorate.

The Maharashtra polls are scheduled for November 20 and counting will be held on November 23. (ANI)
