Kolkata (West Bengal) | October 5, 2024 10:41:40 PM IST
After the body of a school girl was found in a canal in Kultali, in West Bengal's South Parganas district, Bharatiya Janata Party state president Sukanta Mazumdar criticised Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee' administration stating that "women are not safe."

Mazumdar's attack on the TMC government comes after the BJP launched a protest in Kultali of the South 24 Parganas district, where the incident happened.

"It has been proved again that women are not safe under Mamata Banerjee administration," Mazumdar said.

Mazumdar further said that he would not inaugurate Durga Puja Pandal as sign of protest against the TMC government.

"I have decided to not inaugurate any Puja (Durga puja pandal) this year in protest against this. I will pray before Maa that the public should teach a lesson to this government," he said.

Meanwhile, BJP has continued protest outside the Kantapukar morgue, where the body of the minor girl was brought for a postmortem. BJP's Priyanka Tibrewal also joined the protest.

"Today when the body is brought for a postmortem. It is already 5: 30 pm. What is the urgency for post-mortem? They'll again try to cremate the body as soon as possible. We have seen this time and time again." Tibrewal said.

"Also, when the parents urged police to file an FIR, they refused. They have stopped us from going inside. The West Bengal government has a habit of hiding everything," Tibrewal added.

Tibrewal further described the incident as 'sad and heinous' and said that police is not allowing her to enter the post-mortem premises, even though she is willing to represent them as a lawyer.

"This is a very sad, heinous incident that has happened. The police did not want to register FIR. After speaking top the parents. I want to represent them as an advocate. The police are not allowing me to enter the premises where the postmartem is supposed to be conducted," she said.

Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha has also launched a protest in the North Kolkata district, demanding justice for the minor girl, who was allegedly raped and killed.

Earlier in the day, Agnimitra Paul criticised the Kautali police for "not filing FIR" even after the parents of the deceased minor urged them. She further demanded the postmortem from a central government hospital, showing her distrust of the state government.

"A nine-year-old girl who was returning from tuition yesterday, her body was found in a canal today. The girl's body had urged the police to file an FIR in the matter but Mamata Banerjee's police did not register it. Those who have seen her body she had injuries on her body similar to those on Abhaya's body. In this case, the body should be preserved. Post-mortem should be performed at a hospital under Central govt." Agnimitra Paul said.

"I spoke to the girl's father and he agrees that the body should be preserved. The CM needs to take responsibility as she protects the accused. We will demand the death penalty for the accused and CBI inquiry into the case." she added. (ANI)
