West Bengal Minister Dilip Ghosh on Saturday reacted to the dispute between ABVP members and SFI at Jadavpur University, alleging that the campus had witnessed similar controversies in the past and called for police and local administration to ensure law and order.

Speaking on the issue, Ghosh said that the administration should take responsibility for maintaining peace and managing activities within the university campus.

He said, "The current controversy surrounding Jadavpur is not the first of its kind. They had effectively turned it into an isolated enclave; anti-national slogans were raised there, and illegal activities, including the trade of drugs and cannabis, were rampant. We were aware of this all along. A Union Minister was insulted there, as was the Honorable Governor, yet no one spoke up. The police must handle law and order, and the local administration needs to manage what is happening inside the campus."

Earlier, on Wednesday, a physical altercation reportedly broke out between two groups of students at Jadavpur University during a General Body Meeting on Wednesday night, leaving two ABVP members injured.

The General Body Meeting was organised by students affiliated with the Faculty of Engineering and Technology Students' Union (FETSU) at around 9 pm at Arbindo Bhawan inside the university campus.

The incident occurred during a meeting related to the constitution of the FETSU Union, with students from different political affiliations reportedly opposing each other's positions.

According to the report, Left-wing supporters allegedly attempted to constitute the union unilaterally during the meeting. The move was opposed by ABVP supporters Diptiman Kar and Nikhil Das, the ABVP president.

On the Annapurna scheme, Ghosh said benefits would be provided only to eligible beneficiaries after verification of details. He added that surveys are being conducted for various schemes, and documents such as Aadhaar and voter cards are being cross-verified.

"Benefits will be provided only to those who meet the established criteria. Surveys are currently underway for all schemes. Aadhaar cards and voter cards are being cross-verified. As the details are cleared, everyone will receive the benefits," he said. (ANI)
