An accidental explosion at the NTPC facility in Kaniha left five people injured, triggering immediate medical responses and district-level administrative oversight, District Magistrate Abdaal Akhtar said.

Talking to reporters, Angul District Magistrate Abdaal Akhtar highlighted the condition of the injured workers, noting that the more serious injuries are currently admitted to the hospital in Bhubaneswar.

He said, "In the incident, approximately five people were injured. Three of them sustained minor injuries and have been admitted to the local NTPC Kaniha Hospital. The other two suffered more serious injuries and are currently admitted to SUM Ultimate Hospital in Bhubaneswar. Of these two, one is in a stable condition and is expected to be discharged from the hospital soon, while the other, who sustained more severe injuries, remains in a serious but stable condition and is undergoing treatment at SUM Ultimate Hospital."

While technical teams work to uncover the root cause behind the incident, administrative heads have initiated high-level coordination with power plant leadership.

"The cause of the accident has not yet been ascertained; however, I have spoken with the NTPC CMD as well as local plant officials regarding the matter, and they have provided assurance," Angul District Magistrate added.

Further details awaited. (ANI)
