Assam polls will mark "century of defeats for Cong' self-proclaimed prince," says PM Modi; Cong calls it "govt of double-slavery"

Addressing a public rally in Assam's Gogamukh, the Prime Minister expressed confidence of achieving a "hattrick" of victory in the state.

Meanwhile, in an indirect jibe at LoP Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, he stressed that the upcoming election will mark "a century of defeats for Congress's self-proclaimed prince."

"Under the leadership of Sarbananda Sonowal first, and then under the guidance of Himanta Biswa Sarma, Assam has witnessed a new era of service and good governance in the past 10 years. These Assam elections are the election to build a developed Assam for a developed India. This time, a hat-trick for the BJP-NDA government is certain. And a hat-trick of defeat for Congress is also certain. And a century of defeat for Congress's self-proclaimed prince is also on the cards," said PM Modi.

Furthermore, PM Modi vowed to implement the Uniform Civil Code in Assam.

"To ensure that no deceit is done to our daughters, many major announcements have also been made to ensure the dignity, respect, and safety of our daughters' lives. Implementing the Uniform Civil Code in Assam and protecting the traditions of our tribal society, Sixth Schedule areas, or saving Assam's identity are very big announcements. The BJP does what it says," he said.

PM Modi launched a huge attack aimed at the Congress, accusing the party of being "the root cause" of corruption in Independent India.

"The entire country knows that Congress is anti-development and has been the root of corruption in independent India. In Assam, Congress committed acts that the people are well aware of. Congress has played with Assam's identity, pride, and security. Since independence, it compromised Assamese identity for the sake of power and repeatedly neglected Assam's interests. One of its biggest wrongdoings has been integrating illegal infiltrators into the mainstream," said PM Modi while addressing a rally in Biswanath.

"Until 10 years ago, when anyone came to Assam, they would be stunned to see the state's backwardness. But today, seeing Assam's connectivity, people are filled with joy, experiencing a positive kind of astonishment. Just a short while ago, the world also saw those highways in Assam where fighter jets are landing," said PM Modi.

The Prime Minister said the Bharatiya Janata Party is working to address key challenges such as floods and land erosion in the state.

"The BJP is making honest efforts to address another major problem of Assam. This problem is of floods, of land erosion. Currently, work is underway on schemes worth hundreds of crores for this. The Assam BJP has announced that an additional Rs 18,000 crores will be spent for protection against floods and land erosion," said PM Modi.

Earlier in the day, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra delivered a strong critique of the state and central government during a rally in Nazira, urging people of Assam to reject what she called a "government of double-slavery" and vote for a Congress-led administration focused on public welfare.

"They only work for you when they see some benefit in it for themselves. This has not been the tradition of this country. Even today, we want a government in Assam which doesn't scare you, doesn't threaten you, doesn't serve its own selfish interests, but serves you, works honestly for you, advances and strengthens your culture and your civilisation," Priyanka Gandhi said while addressing a public meeting here.

Taking aim at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Gandhi criticised the BJP's "double-engine government" pitch, calling it a failure.

She further accused the BJP of attempting to suppress the people of Assam, urging voters to reject what she described as the politics of fear."

"They had spoken of a double-engine government. Didn't they say so in the last election? Modi ji used to come and say that now they will run a double-engine government. But they have run a government of double-slavery. Modi ji has become a slave to America and because of his policies today the entire country is in crisis. And Hemanta ji is Modi ji's slave. And on top of that, they want this government of double-slavery to make the people of this beautiful and self-respecting state of Assam slaves, keep them suppressed," she said.

The polling for all 126 Assembly constituencies will be held in a single phase on April 9, while the counting of votes is scheduled for May 4.

Assam will witness a fight between the incumbent BJP-led NDA government and Congress for the 126-seat assembly.

The BJP is contesting the elections with Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and Bodoland People's Front (BPF).

The NDA will look to secure a third consecutive term, while the Congress aims to defeat the ruling party to return to power. (ANI)
