Odisha Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati on Wednesday extended warm greetings to the people of the state on the occasion of Odisha Divas, commemorating the formation of the state as India's first linguistic state on April 1, 1936.

"On the auspicious occasion of Odisha Divas, I extend my warm greetings and best wishes to all the people of Odisha. This historic day marks the formation of our state on 1st April 1936, as the first linguistic state of India. It was the result of the vision, sacrifice and determined efforts of great leaders like Utkal Gaurav Madhusudan Das, Utkalmani Pandit Gopabandhu Das and Maharaja Krishna Chandra Gajapatim, along with many other pioneers who worked tirelessly to protect our language, identity and cultural heritage. We remember their contributions with deep respect and gratitude. Odisha has a proud and glorious past, the legacy of ancient Kalinga, the spirit of sacrifice seen in the Paika Rebellion of 1817 and our rich traditions continue to inspire us even today," he said.

Highlighting the state's developmental journey, Dr. Kambhampati said Odisha has made "steady progress across various sectors" and is advancing with confidence on the path of development.

"The state has presented a progressive budget of about Rs 3,10,000 crore for the financial year 2026-2027, focusing on inclusive growth and welfare of all sections of society. This reflects our commitment to balanced and sustainable development. Empowerment of women has been a key priority. Under the Subhadra Yojana, more than one crore women are being supported with financial assistance of Rs 10,000 per year, enabling them to become self-reliant and economically independent," he added.

On the state's healthcare and social security measures, the Governor said, "This initiative is creating new opportunities and strengthening families across the state. In the field of healthcare, the Gopabandhu Jana Arogya Yojana ensures health coverage up to Rs 5 lakh per family and Rs 10 lakh for women. This has provided a strong safety net to families and ensured that no one is pushed into poverty due to medical expenses. Agriculture continues to be the backbone of Odisha's economy. With an allocation of over Rs 42,492 crore for agriculture and allied sectors, the state is focusing on improving irrigation, promoting modern farming techniques and ensuring farmer incomes. These efforts are helping to make agriculture more sustainable and profitable," he said.

Dr. Kambhampati also lauded Odisha's disaster response mechanism, describing it as a model for preparedness and community participation.

"Odisha has also gained national and international recognition for its disaster management system. The state's 'zero casualty' approach has successfully minimised loss of life during major natural calamities such as Cyclone Fani and Cyclone Amphan. This model stands as an example of preparedness, coordination and people's participation," he said.

The Governor further noted that Odisha is emerging as a hub for industry and technology, boosting employment and opportunities for youth.

"In recent years, Odisha has emerged as a growing hub for industry and technology. With new investments in electronics and semiconductor sectors, the state is creating employment opportunities and encouraging young talent to build their future here," Dr. Kambhampati added. (ANI)
