Veteran Congress leader, Digvijaya Singh on Wednesday criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led central government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi over ED's chargesheet against Rahul Gandhi Sonia Gandhi in the National Herald case saying they are using central agencies as a political weapon.

Singh highlighted that they have consistently handed over their personal wealth to the country since 1930 and have never acquired wealth for personal gain while holding public office, stressing that the entire case is false and has been filed to harass.

"The Nehru-Gandhi family has handed over its personal wealth to the country from 1930 to date. While holding any post, they have never acquired any personal wealth for personal gain. By taking up the National Herald case, the BJP government and PM Modi are using ED, IT and CBI as a political weapon, we condemn it. I can say with certainty that this family has not taken even a single rupee from the account of the National Herald or any other company associated with it for personal work. This entire case is false; it has been filed to harass and discredit. We strongly condemn this and object to it," Singh told ANI.

Additionally, the Rajya Sabha MP also urged Congress leaders, workers, and the public who are against the misuse of central agencies to join the protest with him.

"I appeal to all Congress leaders, workers and to all the public who are against the misuse of ED, IT CBI to come and protest with us. If you cannot join the protest, then mark their protest via social media. We will fight and win," he added.

On Tuesday, the ED filed a prosecution complaint (chargesheet) in Delhi's Rouse Avenue Court against Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, Sam Pitroda, Suman Dubey and others, including several firms. The matter has been listed for arguments on cognisance in the Delhi Rouse Avenue Court on April 25. (ANI)
