The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Haridwar Police, formed to investigate the Ankita Bhandari case, is currently searching for former BJP MLA Suresh Rathore and actress Urmila Sanawar in Jwalapur, Haridwar.

Both have been missing since an audio clip controversy recently surfaced, which is being linked to the Ankita Bhandari murder case.

In this matter, Dharmendra Kumar, President of the Shiromani Guru Ravidas Vishva Mahapeeth, has filed a case at Bahadrabad police station against Urmila Sanawar and Suresh Rathore, accusing them of damaging the image of a BJP leader.

Haridwar Police has constituted an SIT to investigate the case. A non-bailable warrant (NBW) has been issued against Urmila Sanawar for failing to appear before the police.

Senior sources in Haridwar Police told ANI over the phone that, along with the SIT, multiple police teams have been dispatched to different states to trace former BJP MLA Suresh Rathore and Urmila Sanawar.

Earlier in the day, Uttarakhand BJP president Mahendra Bhatt on Sunday termed the protests by the Congress and the opposition as politically motivated, stating that they have nothing to do with justice for Ankita Bhandari and are instead aimed at their own political survival.

"Congress is using a sensitive issue like the Ankita murder as a political weapon. The political party flags being waved during the protests clearly reflect the intentions of the opposition and individuals nurturing new political ambitions ahead of 2027," Bhatt said.

He added that the Dhami government pursued the case vigorously and ensured the accused were punished, and that if the opposition believes there was any lapse, it is free to present its facts before the court.

He also described the chaos and disorder created during protests in Dehradun and other places as an attempt to vitiate the atmosphere.

State President Bhatt said that Congress, under a well-planned strategy, is trying to tarnish the image of the BJP government and the organisation. (ANI)
