Shakti Parihar, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA from Doda West Assembly Seat, said on Monday that in the Budget Session of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, the party would talk about the interest of the people.

Speaking to ANI, Parihar emphasised that they will play the role of a constructive opposition.

"Today is the first day of the session. Today, LG will address the session...from tomorrow, proper debates will start...BJP will talk about the interest of the people and will play the role of a constructive opposition," he said.

The Jammu and Kashmir's Budget Session is set to begin today.

On Sunday, Congress leader Ghulam Ahmed Mir reiterated the demand for restoring statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, stressing that the region's 1.4 crore people wish it.

Mir emphasised that Jammu and Kashmir's current status as a Union Territory is a major obstacle to effectively serving the people. According to Mir, the restoration of statehood is not a partisan issue but rather a people's demand. He clarified that this demand has nothing to do with the BJP or any other party but is instead a reflection of the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

Mir's statement comes ahead of the Budget Session, where the Congress party, in alliance with the National Conference (NC), is expected to raise this issue. The Congress leader's assertion highlights the significance of statehood restoration in the region's politics and the lives of its people.

After the parties' meeting ahead of the Budget Session, National Conference chief whip Mubarak Gul told ANI, "... Discussions were held to run the upcoming session smoothly... and the issues of the people are raised... Everyone wants statehood to be restored. Every child of Jammu and Kashmir wants that..."

Notably, the restoration of Article 370, the reinstatement of Jammu and Kashmir's statehood, and the implementation of the autonomy resolution were key promises in the National Conference's manifesto for the Jammu and Kashmir elections.

In August 2019, the Central government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi repealed Article 370 of the Indian Constitution, effectively ending the special status given to Jammu and Kashmir. (ANI)
