Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Monday accompanied by his wife and Social Welfare Minister Sri Tinku Roy, attended a screening of the film "The Sabarmati Report" at Rupasi Cinema Hall in Agartala. The event was also attended by several dignitaries.

Speaking to ANI, he said, "...We watched this film, and everyone knows about the Godhra incident. It will be recorded in history for what happened. Everyone knows what took place... The truth will always remain the truth, and today, after watching this film, we all felt it. It was a very painful incident... I appeal to everyone to watch this film."

Chief Minister Saha, visibly moved after watching the film, expressed his deep concern and sorrow over the tragic events portrayed. He shared that he was both shocked and saddened by the brutal treatment of innocent lives, highlighting the merciless nature of the attack.

The movie, which is based on a real-life incident, focuses on the tragic events that took place on board the Sabarmati Express, particularly in coach S6, which departed from Ayodhya station towards Sabarmati on February 27, 2002. The horrific incident, where 59 passengers, including innocent women and children, were brutally burned by miscreants, has left a lasting impact.

At the time of the tragic event, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the Chief Minister of Gujarat.

Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised 'The Sabarmati Report', describing it as a significant film on the 2002 Godhra train coach-burning incident. He remarked that it is good to see the "truth" coming to light.

The Prime Minister was responding to a post on X (formerly Twitter) by a user who praised the movie and tagged him along with a video of the film's trailer. The movie was released on Friday.

"Well said. It is good that this truth is coming out, and that too in a way common people can see it. A fake narrative can persist only for a limited period. Eventually, the facts will always come out!" PM Modi wrote on X.

Directed by Dheeraj Sarna and produced by Shobha Kapoor, Ektaa R Kapoor, Amul V Mohan, and Anshul Mohan, 'The Sabarmati Report' is based on real-life events surrounding the burning of the S-6 coach of the Sabarmati Express in Godhra.

Earlier this month, the film's trailer was unveiled by its makers. The trailer highlights the ideological debate between Hindi-speaking, grounded journalists and their English-speaking counterparts, often portrayed as having a superiority complex. These debates are presented against the backdrop of events that shaped the politics and reporting of the tragic incident. (ANI)
