Bharatiya Janata Party leader R P Singh on Friday slammed the Aam Aadmi Party government for 'blaming' firecrackers for New Delhi's rising air pollution post-Diwali celebrations.
Following the Diwali celebration, Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai thanked the public for maintaining the Air Quality Index near the 350 mark, which the national capital crossed four days ago. RP Singh blamed the AAP government for the pollution issue, saying, "Delhi's AQI is of concern but not because of firecrackers. Today's AQI is lesser than what was before a day yesterday. The issue is that the work that should've happened in Delhi, has not happened. Delhi needed 15000 buses, 15 years ago, today Delhi has approx 7200 buses. If you do not give buses, people will use thier own transport which contributes 48 per cent of pollution." Singh accused the AAP government of inaction for the whole year and then blamed firecrackers for rising air pollution, as well as, BJP-ruled neighbouring states of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh "What about the trees that had to be planted? Is there any audit? There's no information. They look for October 25 and then go to sleep on January 25. They don't care for the whole year and then blame firecrackers for it. 2 years before they used to blame 'Parali' of Punjab, now blame Haryana and UP," Singh said. Earlier in the day, Gopal Rai flagged off the anti-smog guns to tackle the rising air pollution in the national capital. He stated that to control air pollution in Delhi, 200 anti-smog guns will be deployed throughout the city. "To control the pollution in Delhi, the AAP government is launching a water sprinkle campaign in Delhi. In all the 70 assembly constituencies of Delhi, two mobile anti-smog guns will be deployed that will sprinkle water in three shifts...200 mobile anti-smog guns will be deployed," Rai said. The AQI of the national capital, post-Diwali celebration was reported over 350. In Anand Vihar, the AQI was recorded at 395, while Aya Nagar had 352, Jahangirpuri at 390, and Dwarka reached 376. All these areas reported 'very poor' air quality levels, posing significant health risks. The pollution issue wasn't limited to Delhi; other cities like Chennai and Mumbai also reported similar conditions, with smog and poor air quality affecting large areas and residents voicing their concerns about the pollution levels linked to the celebrations.
