Congress candidate from the Gidderbaha Assembly seat, Amrita Warring, has filed her nomination for the Punjab by-polls.

Amrita Warring, wife of Punjab Congress Chief and MP Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, filed her nomination on Thursday.

The Gidderbaha seat, previously won by Amarinder Warring in 2012, 2017 and 2022, fell vacant after the former won the Lok Sabha elections 2024 from Ludhiana this year.

Speaking on her nomination, Amrita Warring said, "I am thankful to the Congress party for bestowing their trust in me and giving me a ticket. I appeal to the public of Gidderbaha to bestow their trust on me so that I can continue to work for the development of the public."

Punjab Congress Chief Raja Warring said that he is hopeful that the people will vote for a good candidate.

"My wife is contesting the elections as a Congress candidate for the Gidderbaha by-poll...I am hopeful that the public will vote for a good candidate. They will not vote for candidates who have changed four parties and shifted loyalties," he said.

There will be by-polls on four seats in Punjab including Gidderbaha, Dera Bana Nanak, Chabbewal and Barnala on November 13.

Meanwhile, the BJP has announced former Punjab finance minister Manpreet Badal from Gidderbaha seat.

The party has chosen Ravikaran Kahlon from Dera Baba Nanak, and Kewal Singh Dhillon from Barnala.

Earlier on October 20, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) announced its candidates for all four assembly seats in Punjab that will face by-polls on November 13.

The party has nominated Gurdeep Singh Randhawa for the Dera Baba Nanak assembly seat.

AAP has fielded Ishaan Chabbewal for the Chabbewal seat, Hardeep Singh Dimpy Dhillon for Gidderbaha, and Harinder Singh Dhaliwal for Barnala.

The by-polls in Punjab are set to take place on November 13, along with 47 assembly constituencies and the Wayanad parliamentary seat in Kerala, as per the Election Commission of India (ECI).

The counting of votes will take place on November 23. (ANI)
