Assam's Guwahati police on Monday busted a gang that was running a human trafficking and flesh trade racket and rescued two abducted minor girls from a brothel in Bihar's Rawta.

Taking to their official X handle, Guwahati Police posted, "A CGPD team from Bhangagarh Police Station rescued two abducted minor girls from a brothel in Rawta in Bihar with the help of Bihar Police."

According to the Guwahati city police, an investigation led to the busting of a network of human traffickers. The probe led to the arrest of Tanveer Alom from Bihar, Idrish Ali from Basistha in Assam, Sikandar Ali from Paltan Bazaar Railway station, Khairun Nesa (of Panjipara in West Bengal) from Basistha.

"Two minor girls were sold by Idris Ali and Khairun Nessa to one person of Panjibara, Bihar for Rs 1,10,000, who later handed them over to Tanvir Alom. The gang tapped vulnerable young girls and women before luring them to be abducted and sold to work in brothels," Diganta Borah, Commissioner of Police of Guwahati said.

The senior police officer also said that, on June 29, a complainant lodged an FIR at Bhangagarh Police Station in Guwahati, Assam, stating that her daughter aged 18 years, had been troubling her to purchase a new mobile phone and on their refusal to her demand, she went to the house of another girl, and thereafter, both the girls were missing.

Borah informed, "While investigation was on full swing, one person called the brother of the victim demanding Rs 30,000 for her release. The call was traced to Purnia, Bihar. Accordingly, a police team of Bhangagarh police station was sent to Purnia, Bihar. Police apprehended Tanveer Alom, who gave the extortion call and recovered both the victim girls."

Borah added, "During the investigation it came to light that while both the victim girls were planning to go Delhi, a person named Sikandar Ali met them at Paltan Bazaar railway station in Guwahati who, after convincing them that he would help them to go to Delhi, handed over the girls to Idrish Ali of Basistha. Idris Ali and his wife (Babli) later, in association with a lady named Khairun Nessa of Panjipara, West Bengal, took them to Siliguri by bus and sold them to another person at Rs 1,10,000, who took the victim girls and handed over to Tanvir Alom who put them to work in a brothel at Rawta, Bihar."
