Uttar Pradesh Congress President Ajay Rai on Saturday visited Sheroes Cafe in Lucknow and asserted that the party members always stand with the acid-attack survivors and urged the government to take strict action against those who sell acids.

Cafe Sheroes Hangout operates in Agra, Lucknow, and Noida and is run by acid-attack survivors.

Speaking with ANI, Rai said, "Sheroes cafe, which is run by our daughters, who are the acid-attack survivors, the whole Congress family stands with them."

He added, "Currently, one girl, who suffered an acid attack, is struggling between life and death in a hospital. Our Congress workers went to the hospital and expressed their support to her family."

Taking to his official X handle, Ajay Rai posted, "Recently in Lucknow, a young man attacked a girl student with acid in broad daylight, due to which the girl was severely burnt."

He added, "Today, a delegation led by the State Women Congress President Mamta Choudhary reached KGMU to enquire about the well-being of the victim student and met the family members and assured them of all possible help. Choudhary said that the government has failed to provide security to the daughters. The criminal should be punished as soon as possible by conducting a trial in the fast-track court and justice should be given to the victim."

Asserting Congress' support to the acid-attack survivors, Rai said, "'Jaha bhi atyachar, anyay hoga, puri Congress party ka ek ek karyakarta khada rahega. (Wherever there are atrocities and injustice, every worker of the Congress Party will be there).' We will give them the strength. We came to Sheroes cafe so that these girls and their families get the strength."

Urging the government to take strict actions, Rai said that these kinds of acids, which are available in the shops for Rs 20, Rs 30, are misused. "The government should immediately ban them so that these kinds of incidents stop. The government should also take action against the shop owners who sell acids." (ANI)
