Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday hit out at the Uttar Pradesh government for allegedly hiding its "failure" in the Hathras stampede and claimed that the arrests being made in the incident are part of a "conspiracy".

"To hide its failure in the 'Hathras incident', the UP government wants to shirk responsibility for the deaths of hundreds of people by making minor arrests. If this happens, it will mean that no one has learned any lesson from the administrative failure in such events, and such accidents will keep repeating in the future," Samajwadi party chief Akhilesh Yadav wrote in a post on X.

Claiming that the arrest made in the Hathras accident is part of a "conspiracy," Yadav stated that the "UP government is needlessly arresting people who were away from the original venue with a specific motive and is preparing to hold them guilty after the arrest. These arrests are a conspiracy in themselves. There should be an immediate judicial inquiry into these arrests so that the game of the BJP government in UP can be exposed before the public."

"If the BJP government says that it had nothing to do with such an event, then the BJP government has no right to stay in power. Most of the poor people who attended this programme were unhappy, exploited, oppressed, deprived, suppressed, on this basis it also means that the BJP government has no concern for such people. Whereas the government's attention should first be directed towards such people," Yadav mentioned in a post on X.

The main accused in the Hathras stamepede incident, Devprakash Madhukar, was produced before the CJM Court in Hathras on Saturday.

The main accused, Devprakash Madhukar, was absconding, and a reward of Rs1 lakh was announced for information leading to his arrest. Madhukar was finally arrested on July 5, 2024, in New Delhi, and two other accused, Ramprakash Shakya and Sanju Yadav, were arrested on July 6, 2024. (ANI)
