The September 11, 2001 attacks became one of the most significant events to influence Hollywood in the 21st century.

Beyond the heartbreaking loss of nearly 3,000 lives, the attacks transformed American politics, foreign policy, public consciousness and popular culture. While Hollywood initially struggled with bring the tragic plight of the events to the big screen, but filmmakers gradually began exploring the event through dramas, documentaries, thrillers and stories about its aftermath.

Among the most notable films is United 93, directed by Paul Greengrass.

The film recreates the final moments of United Airlines Flight 93, one of the planes that were hijacked on September 11. Its restrained, realistic style focuses on the passengers and crew who attempted to overcome the hijackers. The film received Academy Award nominations for its editing and direction and is widely regarded as one of Hollywood's most serious treatments of the attacks.

Another major production was World Trade Center, directed by Oliver Stone.

Starring Nicolas Cage and Michael Pea, the film follows two Port Authority police officers who become trapped beneath the World Trade Center following its collapse. Instead of depicting the terrorists or the larger political story, Stone concentrated on survival, family and the extraordinary efforts of rescuers.

On the other hand, Hollywood also explored the emotional consequences of the attacks through Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close, directed by Stephen Daldry and starring Tom Hanks and Sandra Bullock.

Based on Jonathan Safran Foer's novel, the film follows a young boy trying to understand his father's death in the World Trade Center. Its emphasis is on grief, memory and the difficult process of coping with loss.

Meanwhile, not every Hollywood film about 9/11 depicts the attacks directly. A number of productions examine the political and military consequences that followed.

Zero Dark Thirty focused on the decade-long hunt for Osama bin Laden, the al-Qaeda leader responsible for the attacks. Directed by Kathryn Bigelow and starring Jessica Chastain, the film portrays the intelligence operation that ultimately led to bin Laden's death in Pakistan in 2011.

Worth, starring Michael Keaton, Stanley Tucci and Amy Ryan, focuses on the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund. The film examines the difficult process of determining compensation for victims' families and highlights the human stories behind the enormous financial and legal challenge.

Together, these films demonstrate how Hollywood's relationship with 9/11 has evolved beginning from the immediate shock and remembrance to deeper examinations of grief, national security, war, identity and political consequences.

Twenty-five years later, 9/11 remains not simply a subject for Hollywood, but a defining historical event through which American cinema continues to examine loss, resilience and the complicated legacy of a day that changed the world. (ANI)
