Chalamet's appearance at the Oscars comes weeks after his comments about opera and ballet led to backlash from people in the arts community. According to People, the actor spoke about the topic during a town hall event with Matthew McConaughey at the University of Texas at Austin. During the discussion, Chalamet said, "I don't want to be working in ballet, or opera, or things where it's like, 'Hey, keep this thing alive, even though like no one cares about this anymore.' All respect to all the ballet and opera people out there." At the 2026 Oscars, Chalamet is nominated for Best Actor for his role in 'Marty Supreme.'
