After Netherlands's disappointing 309-run loss against Australia in the 24th match of the ODI World Cup 2023 at Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on Wednesday, Dutch skipper Scott Edwards said that they should have been better today.

While talking at the post-match presentation, Edwards praised the Aussie squad and said that they are a quality side.

The Dutch skipper added that in the last ten overs of the first inning, they got back and Maxwell got going.

Edwards added that they need to improve a few things quickly from this and prepare themselves for the next game.

"They are a quality side, we should have been better today. Execution (what could have been done better with the ball). You miss by fractions and you get out of the park. Full credit to the Aussies. We got back in a bit there with 10 overs to go. Maxwell got going and we couldn't stop him. Pretty nice wicket here and the ball travels so quickly. Those two (opening batters) were awesome for us for the last 18 months and one of the reasons why we are here so we back them all the way. Just touch on things to improve move on quickly from this and prepare ourselves for the next game," Scott Edwards said.

Coming to the match, Australia opted to bat first and scored 399/8 in just 50 overs. Maxwell (106) and David Warner (104 in 93 balls with 11 fours and three sixes) led the onslaught with their centuries.

Steve Smith (71 in 68 balls, with nine fours and six) and Marnus Labuschagne (62 in 47 balls with seven fours and two sixes), who smashed half-centuries.

Logan van Beek (4/74) and Bas de Leede (2/115) were among the pick of the bowlers for the Netherlands.

In the run-chase inning, Adam Zampa bagged four wickets and Mitchell Marsh scalped two wickets in their respective spells to stop Netherlands at 90 runs to seal a stellar win. Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, and Pat Cummins took one wicket each.

On the other hand, no Dutch batsman could score more than 25 runs.

Glenn Maxwell was named the Player of the Match after his 106-run knock from 44 balls.

The Netherlands currently stands at the bottom of the ODI World Cup 2023 standings with just one win by their name. (ANI)
