Quinton de Kock's remarkable ton takes South Africa at 382/5 in first inning against Bangladesh

South Africa opener Quinton de Kock's 174-run knock against Bangladesh helped the Proteas reach 382/5 runs at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Tuesday.

Before the start of the game, Aiden Markram-led South Africa won the toss and decided to bat.

In the first inning, Kock and Reeza Hendricks opened for the Proteas. Even though Hendricks could play an impressive inning and was dismissed in the 6.1 overs by Shoriful Islam for 12 runs (SA 33-1). But Quinton scored 174 runs from 140 balls with a strike rate of 124.29. He smashed 15 fours and 7 sixes.

Rassie van der Dussen replaced Hendricks on the crease, but he could not make a mark in the game. Dussen only played seven balls in the game and was dismissed by Mehidy Hasan Miraz for just one run in the 7.5 overs (SA 36-2).

In the first powerplay, the game was equal and South Africa scored 44 runs. While Bangladesh picked up 2 wickets.

The Protease skipper came on the crease after the dismissal of Dussen. Aiden Markram played an important partnership with de Kock to take South Africa to a better position. However, Markram was dismissed by Shakib in the 30.4 overs for 60 runs from 69 balls.

The Proteas reached the 100-run mark in the 20.2 overs. Markram's side crossed the 200 runs in 35.5 overs after playing 215 balls.

In the second powerplay, Bangladesh conceded 194 runs and the Proteas lost just one wicket.

Bangladesh's Hasan Mahmud bagged an important wicket for his side after he dismissed Quinton de Kock in the 45.1 overs (SA 309-4).

Heinrich Klaasen continued his stellar form and played a 90-run knock on Tuesday. Klaasen smashed 2 fours and 8 sixes.

However, in the 49.2 overs, Hasan Mahmud dismissed Klaasen (SA 374-5).

In the end, David Miler and Marco Jansen were on the crease. Where Miler scored 34 runs from 15 balls. Jansen only scored one run after playing one ball.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh displayed a disappointing performance with the ball in the first inning. Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Shoriful Islam, and Shakib Al Hasan all picked up one wicket each in their respective spell. On the other hand, Hasan Mahmud scalped two wickets in his six-over spell.

In the second inning, Bangladesh need to make 383 runs in 50 overs to win the ODI World Cup 2023 match in Mumbai. (ANI)
