With an end to the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections, the ruling BJP is exuding confidence in sweeping away all five seats in Assam that went to polls on Friday.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Saturday that the BJP will win all five seats in the first phase of the polls.

"We will win all five seats in the first phase--five out of five clean sweeps. We will also win the Karimganj seat in the second phase. In the third phase, except for Dhubri, we will win other seats. But there will be a contest in Dhubri and a good campaign is underway," said the Assam Chief Minister.

"So far, I have not visited Dhubri and I will come to know after visiting Dhubri. The highest winning margin will be from Guwahati because I am an MLA for the Guwahati parliamentary constituency. In the second phase, earlier Nagaon and Karimganj seats were tough, but now it has become easy for us," Himanta Biswa Sarma told the media in Karimganj.

The Assam Chief Minister further said that Union Home Minister Amit Shah will visit Assam tomorrow and will hold a roadshow in Silchar.

Earlier, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to social media to express his views on how many seats the BJP would get in the first phase after polling ended on Friday.

The chief minister said that results in all five constituencies will be in favor of the BJP as a response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his work.

"My feedback - 1st Phase of voting in Assam was phenomenal. 5/5 seats are now firmly with Adarniya Narendra Modi Ji. The momentum for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is much bigger than we expected. In Phase 2, we will also be winning all five seats," he posted on X.

Responding to a question raised by a reporter over Mamata Banerjee's allegations of less development in Assam and her wish to contest all seats in the next assembly polls in Assam, CM Sarma said, "Mamata Banerjee should focus on her own state, West Bengal. We are thinking about Assam only."

"If TMC will field its candidates in all 126 seats in Assam in the assembly election, then the candidate's expenditure will come from West Bengal and the money will be added to Assam's economy. So I welcome Mamata Banerjee," said CM Sarma.

The Assam Chief Minister on Saturday attended an election campaign rally in Karimganj for BJP candidate Kripanath Mallah for the Karimganj Lok Sabha seat.

Assam recorded 75.95 per cent voter turnout in the first phase of polls, which was held in five parliamentary constituencies in the state on Friday.

The second phase of polls for five Lok Sabha seats in Assam - Silchar, Karimganj, Diphu, Nagaon, and Darrang-Udalguri will be held on April 26.

Altogether, 60 candidates filed their nomination papers for four parliamentary constituencies in the state that are going to the polls in the third phase on May 7.

In the third phase, voting will be held in Kokrajhar, Dhubri, Barpeta and Guwahati parliamentary constituencies.

According to the Chief Electoral Officer, Assam, 30 candidates had filed their nomination papers on the last day of submission for the third phase of the polls.

"On the last day of submission of nomination papers for the third phase of polls, 7 candidates filed their nomination papers in Kokrajhar, 10 in Dhubri, 9 in Barpeta and 4 in Guwahati," said the DIPR, Assam, in a press statement. (ANI)
