"People are with PM Modi with all seriousness and perseverance": BJP

As the polling for the first phase of 18th Lok Sabha elections concluded on Friday with over 60 per cent voter turnout, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) exuded confidence, citing huge support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP.

BJP spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi and party Rajya Sabha MP, while addressing a press conference here, said that the feedback the party has got after the first phase of elections is that the people of the country, with all their seriousness and perseverance, are in support of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

"Today, the first phase of Lok Sabha elections concluded. We thank the voters for casting their votes. It is clear from the feedback the party has got after the first phase of elections that the people of the country with all seriousness and perseverance are in support of PM Modi," he said.

He also hit out at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his slogan 'Mohabbat ki dukan', saying that the items in the shop of love are not effective anymore.

"INDIA alliance and its self-proclaimed leader Rahul Gandhi seem to have lost all hope. After the conclusion of the first phase of (Lok Sabha) elections, one more thing has been cleared that Rahul Gandhi still does not dare to announce his candidature from Amethi," he added.

The first phase of voting for the 18th Lok Sabha elections began in 21 states and Union territories today. Sixty per cent voter turnout was recorded till 7 pm across the country.

Seats in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Jammu and Kashmir, Lakshadweep and Puducherry conducted polls today.
