Baloch Yakjehti Committee accuses Pakistani state of escalating collective punishment after demolition of homes

The group alleged that the residence of the family of forcibly disappeared Asghar Ali, along with at least six other homes, was razed without legal process, as reported by The Balochistan Post.

According to The Balochistan Post, the BYC stated that Asghar Ali's relatives had already endured repeated security raids, intimidation and pressure to make statements under coercion following his disappearance. The organisation claimed the latest demolition, reportedly carried out using heavy machinery, marked another stage in what it described as systematic persecution of the family.

The committee further alleged that the homes of Rizwan Rasheed, Ali Asghar, Ghulam Nabi Jaffar, Yar Jan, Mohammad Jan and Ghani Jaffar were also demolished in Jiwani. BYC maintained that removing families from their homes without judicial approval or legal justification, while forcing them to witness the destruction of their properties under extreme weather conditions, amounted to a severe violation of basic human rights.

The organisation claimed such actions were being carried out outside the framework of Pakistan's own constitutional and legal protections.

BYC further alleged that similar incidents involving the burning, looting, damaging and demolition of residential properties have become more frequent in different parts of Balochistan, including Karachi, Kohad in Tump, Panwan in Jiwani and Dasht in Mastung. It accused security personnel, particularly members of the Frontier Corps, of carrying out these operations without accountability, as highlighted by The Balochistan Post.

The BYC also criticised Pakistani political parties and state institutions for what it called their silence over the alleged abuses. It urged international human rights organisations to investigate the reported demolitions and press Pakistan to ensure accountability, as reported by The Balochistan Post. (ANI)
