Punjab Police has linked the shooting of Assistant Sub-Inspector Sukhchain Singh to a conspiracy hatched by an alleged Pakistan-based Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) agent, police said on Monday.

Border Range Inspector General Gurpreet Singh Bhullar briefed reporters on the breakthrough, detailing both the rapid investigation and a subsequent shootout recreation of the crime scene, which occured on October 4th.

On the evening of October 4th, ASI Sukhchain Singh, who is posted with the GRP in Amritsar, was heading home in plain clothes when three unidentified assailants on a motorcycle fired at him with the intent to kill; he was struck in the left arm, Bhullar told ANI.

Updating on the victim's condition and the operational success of the local force, Bhullar added, He is currently undergoing treatment and is out of danger. This was initially a blind case, but our Amritsar Rural SSP, Kanwalpreet Singh Chahal, and his team conducted the investigation with professionalism and successfully solved the case. All the accused were identified in quick succession; only one remains at large, while the others have been arrested.

IG Gurpreet Singh Bhullar further noted that investigators recovered the firearm used in the assault and mapped out the operational chain.

He said, The weapon used in the crime was recovered, and the entire case was cracked. Interrogation revealed that a Pakistan-based ISI agent had hatched the conspiracy, which was executed by Baljit, a notorious criminal previously lodged at Goindwal Sahib Jail. Sahib Gori, a resident of a nearby village, in turn brought along two associates, Simranjit and Baljit; after conducting a reconnaissance of the route, they targeted our ASI.

The case took a turn during field investigations when the police team was taking the main shooter to recreate the crime scene back to the location of the attack.

Recounting the sequence of events, the IG explained, The incident that occurred this afternoon, around 1:15 PM, took place when the Ajnala police team was taking the main shooter, Sahib Gori, out of the vehicle to recreate the crime scene; he attempted to snatch the .38 bore service revolver from one of our officers and succeeded in doing so.

IG Gurpreet Singh Bhullar also described the struggle that resulted in the suspect sustaining injuries and said that the entire case was solved the entire case was solved with great professionalism.

A scuffle ensued as other personnel grappled with him, resulting in two shots being fired; one of the bullets pierced the roof of the official police vehicle. When our officer's colleague stepped in to assist and grabbed the accused, a shot was fired that struck the accused in the leg; he was subsequently moved for medical treatment. The entire case was solved in record time and with great professionalism," Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said. (ANI)
