Congress MP Pawan Khera on Tuesday said the INDIA bloc never trusted Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and alleged that the Opposition was now convinced that he was not a trustworthy person.
Speaking to ANI during the INDIA bloc MPs' protest march against the Election Commission, Khera said, "We never trusted Gyanesh Kumar, but now we are convinced that he is not a trustworthy person..." Raising slogans demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and CEC Gyanesh Kumar, the INDIA bloc leaders and supporters took to the streets of the national capital as their march towards the Election Commission continues. Meanwhile, SP MP Rajiv Rai said that people would confront the BJP on the streets, alleging public anger against the ruling party. "Now, people will confront the BJP on the streets. There is public anger; the BJP fails to realize that the cup of their sins is full. Constitutional institutions and democracy have been strangled, and people have taken to the streets to save democracy," Rai said. Congress MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla said the Opposition was not being allowed to raise national issues in Parliament, alleging that Rahul Gandhis microphone was switched off and that the government was ignoring his concerns over alleged vote theft. He said the INDIA bloc MPs had gathered to protest against the Election Commission and demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, alleging that peoples rights were being suppressed. "It is the duty of the Leader of the Opposition and the main opposition party to bring national issues before the people. Inside Parliament, they do not allow us to speak; they switch off Rahul ji's microphone. Rahul ji has been saying for a long time that votes are being stolen, yet they sit there like mute spectators because they are forming governments by stealing votes," Aujla said. "Forming a government by stealing votes means snatching away people's rights and suppressing their voices. We will not let that voice be suppressed. That is why all the Members of Parliament from the INDIA bloc have gathered here today to protest and demand the resignation of the Election Commissioner of India; we will not budge until he resigns. He should face charges of treason because he snatched away the people's rights," he added. Samajwadi Party MP Ram Gopal Yadav said that there was nothing more important than protecting people's voting rights, asserting that deleting votes on a large scale would undermine democracy. "There is nothing more important than this. If people's votes are deletedif power is usurped by deleting votes on a massive scale, as happened in Bengalthen what remains of democracy? If there is no protest against this, then all other protests become meaningless," Yadav said. (ANI)
