Congress leader and Gujarat state Congress in-charge Randeep Surjewala on Saturday said that the party's social, economic and political ideas had been shaped by Gujarat, noting that the ideology of the Congress was born on this very land.

Addressing a meeting in Ahmedabad, Surjewala said, "Today we have exchanged social, economic, and political ideas of Gujarat. The ideas of the Congress were born here..."

Emphasising the legacy of India's freedom movement and its prominent leaders who originated from the state, the Congress leader highlighted the core values associated with Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

"I repeatedly tell my colleagues one thing: whenever we take the names of Bapu and Sardar Patel, 4 words come with them, which were born from this very land: truth, courage, organisation, and movement," Surjewala added.

Surjewala's remarks came on a day when the All India Congress Committee announced new appointments and reassignments for key party functionaries with immediate effect.

According to a press release issued by AICC General Secretary KC Venugopal, Sachin Pilot has been appointed as the General Secretary In-charge of Punjab, while Randeep Singh Surjewala has been assigned as the General Secretary In-charge of Gujarat.

In addition to this new role, Surjewala will also hold the additional responsibility of General Secretary In-charge of Karnataka.

Meanwhile, Bhupesh Baghel has been shifted and appointed as the General Secretary In-charge of Assam.

Other key appointments include Sukhdeo Bhagat as In-charge of Chhattisgarh, Sirivella Prasad as In-charge of Maharashtra, and PV Mohan as In-charge of Andhra Pradesh.

Another significant development is the growing prominence being given to AICC secretaries and grassroots organisational leaders, with the party seeking to strengthen its organisational structure and responsibilities across states. (ANI)
