Opposition MPs protested in Parliament House complex on Friday against the alleged theft of donations at the Ram temple in Ayodhya and over their demand for a statement from Union Home Minister Amit Shah over alleged"police excesses" against student protesters.
Amid rain, the MPs carrying Umbrellas and placards against the Central government protested infront of Makar Dwar of Parliament with slogans such as"'Amit Shah Jawab do" Congress MP KC Venugopal said, "If they have any sincerity to the Gen Z, let them ask the Home Minister of India to resign. Otherwise, he (Union Home Minister) should at least come to Parliament and apologize to the students...Also, the RSS is controlling the government. If he has any sincerity towards the students, he has to condemn the atrocities committed against them. Pellet guns were used, and the students are demanding accountability for that. Why is he keeping mum on the issue? All of this is nothing but an eyewash..." Venugopal on Friday moved an Adjournment Motion notice in the Lok Sabha to discuss what he described as "shocking revelations" of massive financial fraud and embezzlement of public donations at the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. In his notice, Venugopal alleged, "There is an urgent need to discuss the shocking revelations of massive financial fraud, theft, and embezzlement of public donations at the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. Recent reports indicate a highly organised racket operating within the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, where bundles of cash and valuable jewellery donated by millions of devoted citizens have been systematically siphoned off." The ongoing monsoon session has been largely washed out over the past two weeks. The opposition has been demanding a statment from Union Home Minister Amit Shah over the alleged police action at the July 20 protest demanding the resignation of then Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan A day earlier, the Lok Sabha passed the 'Taxation and Other Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2026 ', which seeks to amend the Payment and Settlement Systems Act, 2007, Income-tax Act, 2025, and Finance Act, 2026. The Bill, moved by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for passing, was approved by voice vote without discussion amid protests by opposition members over their demands related to police action against protestors on July 20. It proposes a series of tax changes aimed at boosting investment, supporting manufacturing, and providing tax certainty and will replace the Income-tax (Amendment) Ordinance, 2026.
