A newborn baby was found dead inside a bucket in the washroom of a private hospital in Akambadam on Monday.

The body was discovered by the hospital's cleaning staff while they were cleaning the washroom at Fatima Hospital.

According to the preliminary investigation, police suspect that the mother deliberately abandoned the baby in the washroom. Officers reached the hospital, conducted an inspection, and recorded statements from doctors and hospital staff.

Hospital authorities said a young woman from Chaliyar and her relatives had arrived at the hospital around 11 PM on the previous night with complaints of heavy bleeding. The duty nurse advised that she be shifted immediately to the Nilambur District Hospital for further treatment.

Before being transferred, the woman went into the washroom to change her clothes and came out after some time. She was then shifted to the District Hospital by ambulance.

Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation. The exact cause of the newborn's death will be determined after the post-mortem examination and further inquiry. (ANI)
