Congress MP and chairman of the party's media and publicity department, Pawan Khera, on Saturday congratulated the youth after Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigned amid widespread youth-led protests across the country.
In a press conference, Khera reiterated Congress MP Rahul Gandhi's remarks, calling Dharmendra Pradhan a "symbol of a substandard education system." Congress, however, has said that the fight against the system will continue and maintained that the resignation was the "beginning of the end" of the NDA rule. "Heartiest congratulations and thanks to the country's students, youth, and unemployed as they have sacked the Education Minister out of his job today. The youth have dismissed Dharmendra Pradhan," Khera said. "Dharmendra Pradhan was the symbol of the country's substandard education system, unemployment, corruption in the education department, police brutality and government apathy. The fight was not just against the symbol, but against the system--and it will continue. The fight is against that system which took the lives of 21 children," he added. Further, he slammed the Centre against police action on protesters on July 20, during Cockroach Janata Party's 'Chalo Sansad' march. The Rajya Sabha MP said, "The children were dragged, beaten with batons. Pellet guns and shock batons were used against them; in fact, even the leaders who raised their voices were dragged on the streets. Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi were dragged; we saw. The country's youth, GEN Z, were first mocked, but they stood firm. In the end, the government's arrogance broke, and Dharmendra Pradhan resigned." "Rahul ji today said that Narendra Modi is the past, and the fight is for the future. But the sad thing is that this past is destroying the future of millions of youth. This is the beginning of the end. You (PM Modi) call the youth your 'friends', but the youth do not consider you their friend. If Narendra Modi were truly a friend, then they wouldn't baton-charge students, fire tear gas shells, or use pellet guns on them. They would stand with the youth, and immediately show Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan the door," he added. Earlier today, submitting his resignation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Pradhan stated that he was stepping down in the larger interest of students to ensure that the country's youth do not become "trapped in a web of confusion." He highlighted his long-standing association with education and reaffirmed his commitment to the aspirations of India's youth. The controversy began as a NEET-UG paper leak emerged in May, while the re-examination was held on June 21. The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), beginning as a satirical social media account from CJI Surya Kant's remarks, led the movement along with activist Sonam Wangchuk at Jantar Mantar in the national capital, demanding Pradhan's resignation. Congress and the opposition also joined the call for the resignation, with protests on the streets of Delhi and outside Parliament. Meanwhile, Union Ministers JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh held the third round of talks with the CJP. (ANI)
