Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Sanjay Singh on Saturday hailed the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, calling it a victory of the country's youth and students, while asserting that the movement against examination paper leaks would now expand into a broader fight for employment and accountability.
In a post on X, Singh congratulated the protesting students and youth, saying their sustained agitation had compelled the Centre to act. "Long live the power of youth, long live the power of students. Wherever the youth and young energy move, there the era follows. Through their movement, the country's millions of youth have awakened the Modi government, which was sleeping in the slumber of Kumbhakarna, and forced it to accept the resignation of the Education Minister. The fight that began with paper leaks will extend to employment. After this, accountability will be fixed for every mistake in the country. Congratulations on the victory of the movement," Singh posted. Referring to the protests held over the past month, he said demonstrations at Jantar Mantar and across the country, along with hunger strikes by social activist Sonam Wangchuk and protest leader Abhijeet Dipke, had strengthened the movement demanding the Education Minister's resignation. Singh further claimed that the government, which had resisted previous protests, was compelled to concede before the students' agitation. He also urged young people to continue their campaign in a constructive manner, saying the movement should now focus on securing employment and ensuring government accountability. His remarks came after the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), which has been spearheading the agitation, welcomed Pradhan's resignation but said the protest at Jantar Mantar would continue until all of its demands were fulfilled. Addressing protesters after the announcement, CJP leader Abhijeet Dipke said, "Kaha jaata tha iss sarkar main istife nahi hote. Jhukti hai duniya, jhukaane vaala chahiye. We have done it," describing it as the first resignation from Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government. Visuals from the protest site showed demonstrators celebrating after news of the minister's resignation emerged. According to Dipke, the group's remaining demands include Rs 1 crore compensation for the families of students who died by suicide over examination-related issues and action against Delhi Police personnel accused of carrying out a lathi charge on protesters. The CJP also demanded that no action be taken against student protesters. (ANI) Pradhan, in his resignation letter addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, said he was stepping down in the larger interest of students to ensure that the country's youth did not become "trapped in a web of confusion." Recalling the NEET-UG controversy, Pradhan said the Centre had acted promptly after irregularities surfaced in the May 3 examination by handing over the probe to the CBI, cancelling the examination, announcing a re-test, and deciding to conduct the exam in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode from next year onwards. The development came a day after CJP representatives met Union Ministers JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh as part of discussions over the ongoing agitation. (ANI)
