Madhya Pradesh Cabinet Minister Kunwar Vijay Shah on Sunday welcomed the cabinet's approval of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) draft bill, stating that the proposed legislation will mark a new chapter for the country's citizens while strongly slamming the opposition Congress for allegedly misleading people regarding its impact on tribal customs.
Shah strongly dismissed objections raised by the opposition, clarifying that the UCC does not interfere with the customs, traditions, or lifestyle of tribal communities. "I welcome it. I believe that the upcoming Uniform Civil Code will mark a new chapter for the country's citizens. Perhaps they (Congress) haven't read the text; it is stated very clearly. There has been absolutely no interference with the customs, traditions, cultural values, practices, or lifestyles of tribal communities," Shah told ANI. Urging the opposition to review the draft rather than spreading misinformation, the Minister added, "Therefore, there is no reason to mislead people or raise objections based on misconceptions. I urge members of the Congress party to read the document in its entirety." The statement comes after a landmark cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav in historical Jagdishpur, where the draft bill was cleared. The UCC bill is scheduled to be tabled in the state Legislative Assembly during the session commencing tomorrow. Meanwhile, hailing the state government's latest legislative move, Madhya Pradesh Cabinet Minister Krishna Gaur on Sunday termed the cabinet's approval of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) draft bill a "historic decision," stating that the code is a vital necessity for the country. Gaur expressed immense pride in being part of the landmark decision, extending her congratulations to Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav and the entire state council of ministers. "It was a crucial issue, and a historic decision was taken during today's Cabinet meeting. I extend my heartiest congratulations to the Chief Minister and the entire government. The Uniform Civil Code is a necessity for our country, and the Madhya Pradesh government has taken a significant step in this direction. I am proud to have witnessed this historic decision," Gaur said. Earlier, in a significant legislative move, the Madhya Pradesh Cabinet on Sunday approved the draft of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) Bill. The decision was taken during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav in Jagdishpur. The Bill is now set to be tabled in the State Legislative Assembly during the Monsoon Session, which is scheduled to commence tomorrow. (ANI)
