An individual has been arrested by the Ranchi police after he seriously injured a police patrolling officer by 'speeding away' during the inspection of his black SUV, covered in black film with a broken windshield and a number plate concealed in mud, police said on Wednesday.

The accused has been identified as Vishram Oragon (38), a resident of Bariatu, Ranchi.

Speaking to ANI, Ranchi Superintendent of Police (SP) Paras Rana said that the incident took place near Morabadi Prime Park on Tuesday morning at around 11:30 AM. The vehicle had fully tinted windows, a broken windshield, and a rear license plate obscured by mud, appearing suspicious. When a patrolling vehicle of Lalpur Police Station attempted to stop and inspect the vehicle, the driver sped away recklessly, knocking down the driver of the patrol vehicle.

"Yesterday around 11:30 AM, the patrolling vehicle of Lalpur Police Station spotted a vehicle that had black film and whose number plate was covered with mud. The front windshield of the vehicle was damaged. So, based on suspicion, our policemen tried to stop that vehicle. However, the accused tried to flee when police personnel tried to stop him," officials said.

The patrol driver sustained a serious head injury requiring five stitches but is now out of danger. The vehicle's registration number was identified and an FIR has been lodged. The accused was arrested following a raid and the vehicle has also been seized, according to the officials."In these sequence of events, the police officer was also injured. He got five stitches on the back side of his head. Post that, an FIR was registered, and the accused was tracked down. The accused has been identified as Vishram Oraon. His age is around 38 years, and he has been arrested, and he is being forwarded for appropriate legal action," he said.

The police has urged people that they should cooperate with the police if stopped, as Ranchi Police conducts inspection drives to ensure public safety and control crime. (ANI)
